This past week my body had been speaking loudly.
Deep tiredness that sleep didn’t quite touch.
Tender, aching breasts.
Cramping that settled into my low back so intensely it stopped me in my tracks—
that familiar pulling, splitting sensation that reminded me of childbirth.
Not as strong, but unmistakably similar.
It was one of those moments where I knew my body wasn’t asking to be pushed through—it was asking to be supported.
I felt cold in my bones, heavy in my belly, and foggy in my gut. I needed warmth. I needed circulation. I needed something that would help me clear, soften, and come back into rhythm with myself. So I turned to the plants.
That night, after deep rest, I woke and there it was—the blood.
The signal that my body was ready to shed once again.
The Tea I Reached For
I made a simple but intentional blend, one meant to warm, soothe, and gently support my hormones and digestion during this time of release.
- Ginger for warmth and circulation, helping move stagnant energy and ease deep cramping
- Lemon to brighten, cleanse, and support the gut and liver
- Peppermint to soothe the digestive system and soften tension held in the belly
- Schisandra Berry for gentle hormonal support and cyclical balance
- Hibiscus to nourish the blood, cool inflammation, and reconnect the heart to the womb
This tea wasn’t about forcing relief. It was about listening and responding—about meeting my body where it was and offering it comfort.
Why We Bleed — The Physical Wisdom
On a physical level, bleeding is the body’s way of renewing itself. Each cycle, the uterus prepares to hold life. When that life does not come, the body releases what it no longer needs. It is a natural process of clearing, resetting, and rebalancing.
Cramping, back pain, and fatigue are signs of that work happening. The muscles are contracting, the tissues are releasing, and the body is shifting hormones and fluids. Warmth, rest, hydration, and supportive herbs can help the body move through this process with more ease and less resistance.
Why We Bleed — The Spiritual Truth
But bleeding is not only biological.
It is spiritual.
Women who bleed are intimately connected to cycles—of the moon, of the earth, of birth and death and rebirth. Each bleed is a reminder that we are not linear beings. We are cyclical. We are meant to ebb and flow.
This is a time when the veil thins. When intuition sharpens. When the body asks us to slow down, turn inward, and let go—not just physically, but emotionally and energetically as well.
What are you shedding this month?
What is ready to be released along with the blood?
Herbs, like women, carry wisdom. When we work with them intentionally, they don’t just support the body—they support the remembering.
This tea became my way of honoring that moment.
Of warming myself from the inside out.
Of saying yes to rest.
Of trusting the ancient rhythm that lives within me.
This is the medicine of the bleed.
And this is the power of women who listen.
