Today felt like a day meant for nature one of those mornings where your body just knows it needs fresh air, open space, and sun on your skin.
Before we headed out, I set the slow cooker with a whole chicken, letting it simmer away into a creamy chicken-and-dumpling soup we could come home to later. There’s something comforting about knowing home will smell like warmth when you return.
My son has been wanting to boulder and rock climb, so we packed the car, grabbed snacks and water, and made our way to the Valley of Fire. Even the drive felt peaceful, like the day was guiding us exactly where we needed to be.
When we arrived, the weather was perfect warm sunshine on our faces, but none of that heavy desert heat. Just light, soft warmth… almost like the sun was reaching out to say hello.
Running Toward Adventure
One of my favorite moments was when my son grabbed my hand and we started running toward the giant boulders like two kids chasing magic.
“Just a mama and her boy, running toward adventure.”

There’s something about watching your child explore that awakens something in you — the curiosity, the playfulness, the freedom. We climbed, laughed, explored, and paused whenever something beautiful caught our eye.
A Landscape That Speaks
The Valley of Fire never disappoints. The colors alone feel unreal — whimsical reds, pinks, golds, and dusty oranges that look like they were brushed onto the earth by an artist.
“The desert paints with colors I still can’t fully describe.”

Every rock feels like it has a story. Every grain of sand feels ancient. And when you’re there, you can’t help but fall into a natural meditation — the kind that happens without trying.
We stood still at times, just breathing. Listening. Letting the quiet of the desert settle into us.
Never the Same, Never Boring
What I love most about this place is that it never bores. No matter how many times we visit, the Valley of Fire always shows us something new — a new shade of stone, a new shape in the rocks, a new feeling inside ourselves.
“A place that never repeats, always teaches.”
Today was grounding. Fun. Healing. Everything we didn’t know we needed.
We returned home tired in the best way — sun-kissed, sandy, and ready for that warm, cozy dumpling soup waiting for us. The perfect end to a day spent exploring the magic right in our own backyard.

With love and gentle light,
